In the United States we celebrate the unofficial end of summer with Labor Day. Most people take that one last trip to the beach or have that one last picnic with friends and family. Sure, we know it’s a national holiday. Sure we know we get a day off of work. The real question is…do any of us know why? Do we know who this holiday is truly for?
Well, for starters, it for us. Labor Day is known as the “working man’s holiday.” So no matter where you work, no matter what your job is, this holiday is to show appreciation and respect for all the work that you do. It is the first Monday of every September and was started by the Central Labor Union in New York City in 1882. It became so popular that by 1894, it was voted a national holiday by congress. So, enjoy your day. Give yourself a pat on the back and raise your glasses. Cheers to the working man/woman!
